or "Rendering to Reality"

Creating a memorable exhibit requires more than compelling artifacts or an attractive
space. It takes thoughtful planning, imaginative design, close collaboration, and careful execution.
At Exhibit Associates, our flexible company structure provides clients with principal-level involvement from the beginning of a project through its completion. With more than 40 years of experience bringing people and history together, we create engaging environments that take visitors beyond the “what” and “where” of a story to discover its deeper “why.”
Our work is guided by a three-phase Exhibit Development Process, or EDP:
Requirements Determination
Design Development
Fabrication and Installation
This structured but flexible framework enables our team to give every project the attention it deserves while responding to its unique content, audience, space, and objectives.
A Collaborative Approach to Exhibit Design
Exceptional fabrication begins with exceptional design—and exceptional design depends on genuine collaboration between the client and the design team.
Through the EDP, Exhibit Associates can develop the exhibition’s overall look and feel as we do to the details: mounting an artifact correctly, lighting a display effectively, or laying out a graphic for clarity and impact.
The process is intentionally sequential. Each phase produces defined deliverables that become inputs for the next phase. Those deliverables are also designed to function as stand-alone documents that clients can use for internal planning, approval, communication, and future development.
Phase I: Requirements Determination
Every successful exhibit begins with a clear understanding of the client’s vision. Phase I deliverables may include an executive summary, a preliminary scope of work, descriptions of potential concerns, stakeholder identification, early budget estimates, a milestone-based project timeline, and a conceptual floor plan or space-blocking drawing.
Before final submission, Exhibit Associates provides a 90% draft of major deliverables—including the report, presentation, and preliminary cost estimates—for stakeholder review. This step gives the client an opportunity to confirm that the materials accurately reflect their intentions and are suitable for internal use and distribution.
The completed Phase I report provides a narrative explaining the project’s goals, objectives, and key messages. Together, these elements establish the foundation for the visitor experience.
Without giving away the secret sauce the next two phases are:
Phase II: Design Development
Once the project requirements and creative direction have been established, the process moves into Design Development. Phase II connects the project’s vision with the practical information needed to build it successfully.
Phase III: Fabrication and Installation
The careful planning and design work completed during the first two phases comes to life during Fabrication and Installation.
The result is an exhibit that remains faithful to the client’s original vision while meeting the practical demands of the space and its visitors.
The three-phase Exhibit Development Process gives clients and project teams specific, measurable milestones. It supports clear communication, responsible budgeting, accurate reporting, and dependable scheduling throughout the life of a project.
More importantly, it preserves the creative vision at the heart of the exhibit.
