Case Study Overview

The Adidas Volley Wall Experience was a large-scale, interactive brand activation created to celebrate the University of Nebraska Women’s Volleyball program during Final Four Week. Designed as a high-energy, fan-focused installation, the experience debuted in Kansas City, Missouri before being dismantled, stored, transported, and reinstalled at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. The activation needed to function as both a branded environment and an engaging, durable interaction point for a high-volume public audience.

The objective was to design and deliver an immersive, high-impact fan experience under an aggressive timeline. The Volley Wall needed to attract attention, manage crowd flow, and withstand heavy public interaction while maintaining brand accuracy and visual impact. In addition to its initial deployment in Kansas City, the structure had to be engineered for disassembly, storage, transportation, and reinstallation with added components at a second venue.

Role

Objective

Exhibit Associates served as the design, fabrication, and installation partner for the Adidas Volley Wall Experience. Our scope included collaborating with primary marketing and design teams, engineering the structure for repeated installs, fabricating all custom components, managing installation in Kansas City, dismantling and storing the activation, and executing a second installation in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Design Translation & Spatial Planning

Initial design concepts provided by the client established the core visual idea of a large-scale volleyball wall. Following design meetings with stakeholders, Exhibit Associates refined the concept into a fully engineered solution that balanced engagement, durability, safety, and aesthetics. Particular attention was paid to traffic patterns and how participants would interact with the wall in high-density event environments. One of the most critical design considerations was brand accuracy, especially color matching. Achieving the correct Nebraska red was essential to maintaining brand integrity and visual consistency across all components of the activation.

Materials & Fabrication

Fabrication focused on producing a structure that was visually striking, structurally sound, and capable of repeated use. The Volley Wall and supporting elements were built using a combination of MDF, birch, plywood, plex shelving, and integrated LED lighting. Materials were selected to support durability, ease of assembly and disassembly, and clean presentation under event lighting conditions. All components were fabricated with reusability in mind, ensuring the installation could be safely dismantled, stored, and redeployed without compromising structural integrity or appearance.

Installation & Site Logistics

The initial installation took place in Kansas City during Final Four Week, where the Volley Wall served as a focal point for fan engagement. Following the event, Exhibit Associates managed the dismantling, packing, and storage of the activation. The structure was then shipped to Lincoln, Nebraska, where it was reinstalled at the University of Nebraska with additional designed and fabricated components.

This multi-phase deployment required precise planning and coordination to ensure consistency across installations while adapting to different site conditions and layouts.

Engagement & Public Interaction

The completed Volley Wall Experience successfully drew crowds, encouraged interaction, and reinforced brand presence through a combination of scale, repetition, and tactile engagement. The design supported smooth traffic flow while allowing fans to engage directly with the installation, making it both visually compelling and functionally effective in a busy event setting.

Outcome

The Adidas Volley Wall Experience delivered a high-energy, brand-accurate activation that performed across multiple venues and installations. Through careful design development, disciplined fabrication, and coordinated logistics, Exhibit Associates helped transform a bold concept into a durable, repeatable experience that connected fans with the University of Nebraska and Adidas during a major national event.

Final Thought

Large-scale brand activations demand more than visual impact alone. They require thoughtful engineering, durable fabrication, and logistical foresight. The Adidas Volley Wall Experience demonstrates how disciplined execution allows experiential concepts to scale, travel, and perform consistently wherever they appear.
